PADI Surface Marker Buoy Diver
Whether you’re planning on coastal diving here in the UK or on your holiday, having a Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) will increase your safety and comfort and will alert boat traffic and other divers to your location.
Deploying a delayed SMB is a core skill that is required in many parts of the world, try different types, and pick the one best for you.
This course will teach you the safest and easiest techniques to efficiently deploy a delayed SMB whilst static underwater and also whilst swimming. After deployment, these are a great visual reference for your ascent.
The course will cover during two open water dives the following:
-
Why use a DSMB / SMB?
-
Tides and currents
-
Types of Surface Marker Buoys
-
Types of reels
-
Methods of delayed SMB deployment
-
Risks and hazards of SMB use
-
Preparing the delayed SMB for use
To start this course you will need to be a PADI Open Water Diver, PADI Junior Open Water Diver or have a qualifying certification from another training organisation, and be at least 12 years old.
We recommend that you own your own SMB and Reel as part of your dive equipment, and we are more than happy to provide advice, and support your purchase of these.
